2-7 Triple Draw	A lowball draw variant where the goal is to make the worst possible 5-card hand. Players draw up to three times across four betting rounds. Straights and flushes count against you, and aces are always high – making 7-5-4-3-2 (offsuit) the best possible hand. Also called Deuce-to-Seven Triple Draw. Found in high-stakes mixed game rotations and major tournament series that include draw events.
3-bet	The second raise in a betting round, (first re-raise). The name comes from fixed-limit poker, where the first bet counts as one bet, the raise as two, and the re-raise as three. In no-limit games, a 3-bet can be made for value or as a bluff. See also: Three-Bet.
4-Bet	The third raise, or second re-raise, in a betting sequence. After an open bet followed by a raise and a re-raise (3-bet), a 4-bet is the next raising action. Most 4-bet ranges are polarized: premium hands played for value (AA, KK, sometimes QQ and AK) mixed with bluffs to prevent opponents from 3-betting freely without risk. A 4-bet forces the original 3-bettor to commit a large portion of their stack preflop, making the decision high-stakes for both players.
5-Bet	The fifth aggressive action in a preflop betting sequence, following a 4-bet. A 5-bet is almost always all-in and represents a highly polarized range: either an extremely strong hand or a committed bluff. Most 5-bet ranges consist of the top holdings – aces and kings – paired with occasional low-equity suited bluff candidates. Rare in recreational games; more common in 6-max and heads-up cash games at higher stakes where preflop aggression is a primary lever.
6-Max	A table format capped at six players. Shorter-handed than a full ring, which changes the playable hand range and generally speeds up the action. Also called 6-Handed
A-Game	The absolute best version of your game. Playing the best you possibly can.
ABC Poker	Basic poker strategy. The fundamentals.
According to Hoyle	A phrase used to indicate the proper rules of a card game. Edmond Hoyle was an 18th-century author who gained fame for codifying and standardizing the rules to the majority of card games, many of which we still play today. Although he did not write about poker (it was developed after his death), he is still a member of the Poker Hall of Fame, for his contributions to the progression and popularization of card games.
Ace in the Hole	When one of a player’s hole cards is an Ace. It has come to be used as a common term to describe having a hidden advantage.
Aces Up	Two pair where Aces are the higher pair, for example, Aces and Sevens.
Act	To make a decision or action on your turn, such as check, bet, raise, call, or fold.
Acting Out of Turn	Occurs when a player announces or plays their action before their turn. While this can be an unintentional mistake, the action is final and binding regardless of intent.
Action	The amount of betting and raising that takes place at the table. Also used to indicate when it is a player’s turn to act during the hand.
Action Card	A community card that helps two or more players. Tends to initiate significant betting.
Active Player	Players involved in the pot. All players that were dealt into the hand and have not folded are Active Players.
Add-on	This feature which is available in some tournaments is a one-time purchase option available to all players. Players who take the option will have a preset quantity of chips added to their stack. This is normally available either at the beginning of a tournament or the end of the rebuy period. In live cash games, this term is used to indicate buying more chips when a player has less than the maximum allowable starting stack.
Advertise	Exposing one’s cards or making an overly obvious play to communicate one’s hand.
Aggression Factor (AF)	A measure of how aggressive a player is during a betting round. It is measured by comparing the number of times a player will take an aggressive action (betting, raising) compared to a passive action (calling, checking).
Aggressive	A descriptor for a player who tends towards aggression through placing open bets and raises, rather than performing more passive actions, such as calling or checking.
Air	A hand that has missed all of its draws. A very weak hand that has zero value or no chance of winning.
All-In	To bet all of one’s remaining chips in the current hand. Also referred to as a ‘push’ or ‘shove.’
All-In or Fold	A poker format offered by GGPoker. It is available for both Hold’em and Omaha. Players have stacks of 8 Big Blinds and choose between moving All-In or folding on every hand.
Ajax	A starting hand consisting of an Ace and Jack. Also called Apple Jacks, Jackass and Black Jack among other names.
American Airlines	A starting hand consisting of two Aces. Also called: Pocket Rockets, Bullets, Snake Eyes and more.
Ammo	A less common used term for poker chips.
Angle Shooting	A tactic or maneuver used to deceive or gain an unfair advantage over other players, often through exploiting ambiguous rules or taking advantage of opponents who do not fully understand or are aware of the rules.
Angle	A specific deceptive move used to gain an unfair advantage. Including, but not limited to, reaching for chips as if to call in order to read an opponent’s reaction, or making a deliberately ambiguous bet. The term for using these moves as a habit is Angle Shooting. See also: Angle Shooting.
Anna Kournikova	A starting hand consisting of an Ace and a King, based on Anna’s initials. It’s also a tongue-in-cheek reference to a hand that looks better than it plays. Also known as Big Slick and other names.
Ante	A forced bet posted by all players at the table before the hand is dealt. Unlike blinds, antes are universal – everyone pays, every hand.
Ante Off	When the player is away from the table during a tournament, and their blinds (and antes) are automatically posted. The player’s blinds and antes will continue to be added to the pot until their chip stack is exhausted. Also known as Blinding Off or Blinding Out.
Any Two Cards (ATC)	Any combination of two hole cards where the strength of the hand does not matter. This is also a descriptor for a player that will play any hand they are dealt.
As Nas	A Persian card game played with a 25-card deck, often cited as an ancestor of modern poker. Whether it’s actually the origin of poker is debated, but it does receive some credit in almost every poker origin story.
